Solar isn’t new to us.

Sunuser has been working with solar energy since 1981.

Sunuser began in Leeds in 1981. Solar water heating remains core to our work, alongside solar PV and battery storage. We continue to install, repair and maintain these systems, helping people make better use of the sun.

What could your
solar savings
look like?

Start with your electricity bill or usage, monthly or yearly. We’ll suggest a solar and battery size that grows with your needs.

  • Use your electricity spend or kWh
  • See a suggested panel and battery size
  • Compare bill savings and export income
How we calculated this

Spend is converted to usage using your import rate after deducting the standing charge. Use electricity only, excluding gas; direct debits may differ from actual consumption. Annual kWh from your bill gives a better starting point.

The starting array targets your annual demand at an assumed 850 kWh per kWp, rounded up to whole 400 W panels, with a minimum of four panels. Battery capacity starts at 5 kWh and increases by 5 kWh per 4,000 kWh of annual demand. These are illustrative sizing rules, subject to roof space, shading, your usage pattern and a survey.

Direct solar use is limited to 35% of generation or household demand. Solar charging is limited to 35% of generation, remaining demand and 300 times battery capacity per year, with 90% delivered to the home. Remaining generation is exported. This simplified model is not an hourly simulation or MCS estimate. It excludes installation costs, finance, maintenance, degradation and grid charging. Standing charges remain payable; savings are not guaranteed.

Estimated annual electricity saving

An estimate, not an MCS performance estimate or financial guarantee. Your actual savings will vary with how much electricity you use and when you use it, your import and export tariffs, roof orientation, shading, weather and how your solar panels and battery perform. A home survey and review of your electricity bills will help us provide a more tailored estimate.

Estimated annual generationElectricity charges avoidedEstimated remaining bill, including standing chargesPotential export incomeEstimated combined annual benefit

Bill savings cannot exceed your electricity usage charges. Standing charges remain payable. Export income is separate: a larger system may earn more from exports than you spend on electricity, subject to your tariff and agreed export limit.

Adjust tariff and generation assumptions

Editable example rates, not a live tariff offer. A battery can be less worthwhile when export rates are high. An average month is assumed for monthly figures.

More solar advice
Do you still install and service solar thermal?

Yes. Solar hot water has been core to Sunuser since 1981. We continue to offer new solar thermal installations, repairs and maintenance.

Can you service a system installed by another company?

We can help with many solar PV, battery storage and solar thermal systems installed by other companies, subject to condition, compatible equipment and parts availability. Tell us the equipment, location and any symptoms so we can confirm the right support.

Will solar work on my home?

Many roofs are suitable, including some east- and west-facing roofs. Available space, shade, roof condition and your electricity use all matter. We assess your property before recommending a system.

Do I need a battery with solar panels?

No. Solar panels can power your home without one. A battery can shift surplus generation into the evening, but the value depends on your routine, tariff and installation cost. We can compare both options.

Can I add a battery to my existing solar?

Often, yes. We check the inverter, metering and grid arrangements first. If you receive Feed-in Tariff payments, tell us so we can consider those arrangements before designing any changes.

How much will I save?

It depends on your roof, generation, electricity use and import and export rates. Our calculator is an illustration; your proposal will use a property-specific design and explain the assumptions. Standing charges usually remain.

Will a battery keep my home running in a power cut?

Only if the equipment and installation are specifically designed for backup. The circuits supported, available power and runtime vary. Tell us if backup is a priority so we can include it in the design.
