The Importance of Copper Cylinders

Sunuser has always prided itself on providing its customers with the most efficient and cost-effective solar systems. That’s why, since 1981 we have recommended and installed purpose made copper solar hot water cylinders for our solar thermal systems.

Sunuser-Copper-CylinderCopper cylinders reign supreme for a number of reasons and the superior properties of copper have been thoroughly researched.

As recently featured on the BBC’s One Show, copper was shown to have outstanding antimicrobial properties. Millions of the MRSA bacterial bugs were placed on a copper cylinder and within seconds the copper had started destroying the deadly bacteria. Furthermore, in under a minute the bacteria had all but ceased to exist. Copper cylinders have been shown to reduce the threat of other bacterial growth, such as E.coli and Legionella in water systems.ˡ

Copper cylinders lead the way in terms of thermal conductivity. This means that copper cylinders heat water at a faster rate than other materials – almost 30 times greater according to research.² Due to the flexible nature of copper, more copper coil can be fitted into a cylinder to provide a 20 minute heat-up recovery time. A special ‘Integron’ finned coil can also be fitted with a much larger surface area (minimum 1.2m²) to ensure optimum heat transfer from the solar panels to the water in the cylinder. This all contributes to a much more efficient and cost-effective solar thermal system.

STCopper’s flexibility ensures that hot water cylinders in our solar thermal systems can be tailor-made in a wide range of sizes and connection positions to suit each installation. We cater for your individual needs and ensure maximum system performance.

Like our solar systems, the copper cylinders we recommend are built to last. Copper has an incredibly long lifespan and the copper cylinders we’ve installed are helping our many thousands of customers to reduce their fuel bills.

We have always been dedicated to protecting the environment and make a conscious effort in all areas of our work to do this. Our hot water cylinders are no exception. Copper is the most environmentally friendly material possible as it is 100% recyclable.
