Solar Water Heating FAQs

If you're thinking about using solar power to heat your domestic hot water, the chances are you've got some questions to ask us. 1. My house doesn't face South - will I still get good results from my solar panels?

Solar panels will work efficiently & effectively on easterly & westerly, as well as southerly facing houses.

2. I live in a Conservation Area. Will I need to apply for Planning Permission to install solar panels?

No. If you live in a Conservation Area, National Park or Area of Outstanding Beauty, Planning Permission may be needed for the installation of solar panels. Sunuser Limited will check this for you and if necessary complete & submit the full Planning Application on your behalf.

3. Do solar panels work in the North of England and Scotland or just in the South?

Our highly advanced solar collectors are specifically designed to operate efficiently & effectively throughout the entire UK. All our systems are designed to British Standards for optimum performance taking into account geographical location & individual property requirements.

4. Do solar panels still work in the winter?

Yes. Input water temperatures will be raised in the winter months, reducing the amount of work needed by your existing boiler and many of our customers find that they need very minimal (if any) additional hot water heating from March to October.

5. If it's a hot summer, how can I be sure that the hot water doesn't get too hot - especially if I go away on holiday?

The maximum temperature the Sunuser solar system can achieve is restricted by the control equipment which incorporates a number of features to prevent overheating.

6. I have already got a solar panel system in place which was installed by a company who is now no longer in existence, can you repair or maintain this for me?

Sunuser update, repair & maintain a large number of systems installed during the last 27 years by companies no longer in existence. Please contact the Technical Department with the details of your solar system and we will do our best to help you click here or call 0113 262 0261.

7. What guarantees and technical support do Sunuser customers receive?

Each installation now comes with a comprehensive 2 year guarantee. The solar panels are guaranteed for 10 years. In addition to this guarantee, you also have access to our customer helpline or e-mail here so we can make sure you are making the most of the system we have installed for you.

8. Will the installation damage my roof?

The solar panels are positioned on top of the roof surface by our experienced installation teams. There are no structural alterations to the roof and the panels are easily removed.

9. Can I use the solar panels to heat water for other purposes eg swimming pool?

Yes, the solar panels can be used to heat swimming pools and heat water for commercial applications such as hotels, nursing homes & hospitals or for any production process where there is a requirement for hot water.

10. What do I do if the solar power is insufficient to heat the water I need?

The Sunuser® system works in conjunction with your existing water heating facilities which will boost the water to the required temperature as they have always done.
